Ayah 1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ

Ayah 2وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ
English Translation
and the day as it rises bright!
3
Ayah 3وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
English Translation
Consider the creation of the male and the female!
4
Ayah 4إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ
English Translation
Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends!
5
Ayah 5فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ
English Translation
Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God,
6
Ayah 6وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
English Translation
and believes in the truth of the ultimate good
7
Ayah 7فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
English Translation
for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease.
8
Ayah 8وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
English Translation
But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient,
9
Ayah 9وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
English Translation
and calls the ultimate good a lie –
10
Ayah 10فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ
English Translation
for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship:
11
Ayah 11وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ
English Translation
and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]?
12
Ayah 12إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ
English Translation
BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance;
13
Ayah 13وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْءَاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
English Translation
and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]:
14
Ayah 14فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًۭا تَلَظَّىٰ
English Translation
and so I warn you of the raging fire -
15
Ayah 15لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى
English Translation
[the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch
16
Ayah 16ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
English Translation
who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it].
17
Ayah 17وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى
English Translation
For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God:
18
Ayah 18ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ
English Translation
he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity –
19
Ayah 19وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍۢ تُجْزَىٰٓ
English Translation
not as payment for favours received,
20
Ayah 20إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
English Translation
but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest:
21
Ayah 21وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ
English Translation
and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased.
